El Salvador needs approximately 6,000 rooms to meet the demand from tourists.

El Salvador needs approximately 6,000 hotel rooms to meet the demand, stated Morena Valdez, the Minister of Tourism, on Monday.

"We need around 6,000 rooms nationwide. We will have to continue gathering these statistics. During these first three months, we are analyzing the occupancy rates," she assured in an interview on "Frente a Frente."

The minister reiterated that there is a significant gap between supply and demand. MITUR indicated that hotel occupancy has been "quite high" in the first months of 2024.

The latest report from the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (Corsatur) indicates that as of the end of 2023, La Libertad had an average hotel occupancy rate of 78%, while San Salvador reached 58%, and Santa Ana reached 42%.
